L’opposant kenyan a matérialisé sa contestation de la victoire de William Ruto à l’élection présidentielle en déposant un recours lundi 22 août devant la Cour suprême.Raila Odinga joint le geste à la parole. Classée deuxième à l’élection présidentielle du 9 août avec 48,85 %, cette figure de l’opposition kenyane était devancée par le vice-président du pays William Ruto avec 50,49 %, selon la commission électorale. Cela fait une semaine que cet organe indépendant en charge de l’organisation du scrutin a proclamé dans la division les résultats provisoires, qualifiés de « parodie » par M. Odinga.
Bénéficiant du soutien du président sortant Uhuru Kenyatta pour cette élection, il a déposé en ligne un recours devant la Cour suprême contestant les résultats, a indiqué ce lundi un de ses avocats. Le recours « leur a déjà été envoyé et ils le verront bientôt. (…) La copie physique doit arriver avant 14 h (11 h GMT), heure limite pour déposer un recours. Nous espérons avoir bâti un bon dossier et que nous gagnerons », a déclaré Daniel Maanzo, qui fait partie de l’équipe juridique de l’homme politique de 77 ans.
Ainsi, la Cour suprême, plus haute instance judiciaire du pays, dispose de quatorze jours pour rendre sa décision. Et en cas d’annulation du scrutin, une nouvelle élection doit se tenir dans les soixante jours.
